         THE FIRST SONIC GAME, RELEASED IN 1991 FOR THE SEGA GENESIS, WAS DEVLOPED AFTER SEGA REQUESTED MASCOT CHARACTER TO COMPLETE WITH NINTENDO'S MASCOT MARIO.
